New York, September 18.- It is officially reported from Berlin: No decision has been arrived at yet in the battle between the

Aise and the Meuse, but there are signs that the power of the

enemy's resistance is relaxing. An endeavour of the French to

break through the German right wing has sollapsed.

center is gaining ground.

The German

The force of the French attacks is apparently slackening.

The German positions are extremely strong and the German armies

are slowly but constantly advancing.

The losses of the eight Russian army corps defeated in East

Prussia, no man of which is any longer on German soil, amount

to one hundred thousand men. The spoils of war are proving to

be immense. It is, however, stated at Petrograd that General

Rennenkampf has reported to the Tsar that he was successful in

frustrating the German attempt to outflank him.

Gerrans in Russian Poland.

The German advance in Rusian Poland is making further pro-

grega. The Austrians and Hungarians are victorious in Galicia.

The reports of large Russian successes, including the fall of the

outer forts of Przemysl and the concentrating of the Austrians

at Cracow, prove to be baseless.

The German General Staff reports that the Zeppelin airships

have come up to all expectations. They have made long and dan-

gerous but most successful flights. Some of them have been da-

maged, but all have been repaired. No one has been lost.

Germany is negotiating with Italy, explaining the situation.
